Interestingly, the research found where remote workers usually work with laptops — a significant 36% work primarily from their living rooms, followed by 26% using home offices. Surprisingly, a niche group even admits to working straight from bed!
The research also highlighted that people who work from home feel they are as effective, if not more effective, as those who work in traditional workplaces such as offices.
Con: It’s Easier to Get Distracted
Arguably, the biggest challenge that home workers face when it comes to WFH pros and cons is staying focused because there are plenty of potential distractions.
The dog might need to go out, the pile of laundry is still waiting to be folded, and the dirty dishes in the sink are piling up, so it’s more tempting to sneak in a few house chores during the working day.
The Comfort of Working From Home
Pro: Working From Home Is More Comfortable
One primary advantage highlighted by respondents is the ability to tailor their work environment. 25% prefer working with music on, and a significant 75% opt to have their heating on during winter, pinpointing 20°C as the ideal working temperature.
Con: It Leads to Higher Energy Bills
Heating your home office is a double-edged sword. While it offers comfort, the research found that 24% of workers abstain from using it due to cost concerns, deeming it unnecessary when only occupying one room.
A spokesman for Drayton said: “Having the heating on can be somewhat of a dilemma because it is increasingly pricey, but no one wants to be cold all day when trying to get important work done.”
