Wiser Products and EU RED DA Compliance
Please find below information relating to the Radio Equipment Directive Delegated Act (RED DA) and Wiser 1st Generation products.
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the RED Delegated Act (RED DA) are the regulations for Europe, and there has been a recent update only in the European regulations. These regulations aim to ensure that products are safe, secure, and compliant with relevant standards.
The Radio Equipment Regulations (RER) and Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act are applicable to the UK.
At Drayton we have decided not to sell the products listed below – Wiser 1st Generation RTOS products only – into the EU market after changes to RED DA come into effect from 1st August 2025. They are a cost-effective range that offer great smart heating controls designed for the UK market but are not compatible with the new RED applicable only in the EU.
Wiser 2nd Generation products are RED DA compliant and their sales in the EU, Ireland and Northern Ireland will be unaffected.
What is RED DA?
The RED DA refers to the Radio Equipment Directive Delegated Act in the EU. This act supplements the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) by introducing additional requirements for radio equipment, particularly focusing on cybersecurity aspects.
The RED DA mandates that manufacturers ensure their radio equipment is designed to protect personal data and privacy, prevent fraud, and support network resilience.
This includes requirements such as secure software updates and protection against unauthorised access.
Where does it apply?
This applies to the European Union, including Northern Ireland and Ireland as all of these areas use EU compliance standards (England, Scotland and Wales are not affected).
What’s the implication?
The products listed below cannot be sold into the EU from the 1st August 2025 when RED DA comes into force, this includes Northern Ireland and Ireland.
Which products does this apply to?
• WT714R9K0902 Wiser Thermostat Kit 1
• WT724R9K0902 Wiser Thermostat Kit 2
• WT734R9K0902 Wiser Thermostat Kit 3
• WV714R9K0902 Wiser Multi-room Kit 1
• WV724R9K0902 Wiser Multi-room Kit 2
• WT714R1S0902 Wiser 1 Channel HubR
• WT724R1S0902 Wiser 2 Channel HubR

Are there any impacts on Drayton products?
There will be no impact on the Drayton product range, all will continue to work as normal. This does not affect non-internet connected devices such as Digistat.
When will this come into effect?
Products received by retailers before the 1st August 2025 can be sold thereafter. However, Drayton will not be selling the products listed above into Northern Ireland, Ireland or the EU.
Does this mean Wiser is not secure?
No – Wiser is UKCA compliant and moreover is compliant with the UK's PSTI, so are products are safe and secure from digital threats.
The UK's Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act focuses on the security of consumer connectable products, similar to the EU's RED Delegated Act (RED DA). The PSTI mandates requirements such as no insecure default passwords, a way to receive vulnerability reports, and commitments to fixing cybersecurity issues.
Are there any plans for the Wiser products above to be RED DA compliant in the future?
The Wiser products listed (above) will not be RED compliant in future. To make the products compliant would require firmware remedies which would exceed the available amount of flash and/or SRAM the product possesses.
However, our new range of 2nd Generation Wiser products are all RED DA compliant.
