Smart heating saves households over £200 a year
In the second of our blog series looking at the nation’s energy saving efforts, we explore just how much money people have saved by using smart heating.
We surveyed 2,000 adults, asking those with smart heating what difference it’s made to their bills over the last 12 months. On average, respondents estimated that they have saved a very healthy £222, with a quarter cutting their annual energy bill by more than £300.
Who are the savviest savers?
25–44-year-olds have saved the most by using smart heating, achieving the highest average savings (over £250 a year), while 42% of 35–44-year-olds estimated they had saved an impressive £301-£500.
However, nearly half (47%) of over 65s, and more than a quarter (27%) of women surveyed were unsure of the savings they’ve made. It’s a good idea to make use of features like Insights+, available in the Wiser Home app, to keep an eye on your heating use and the money you’re saving.
Londoners have banked the biggest savings, with an annual estimated saving of over £280 (vs the average of £222) and a third (32%) reducing their bill by £301-£500, thanks to smart heating tech. Those living in the northwest are seeing the benefits too, with an annual average saving of £255.
