The Leaf: Mill Ford School Visit
On the 25th January, the STEM ambassador team welcomed pupils from Mill Ford school, a local school in Plymouth with a specialism in meeting the needs of children and young adults with complex needs.
The students visited our Schneider Electric factory and office in Plymouth. They had the chance to discover more about smart home technology and our career development opportunities. They were also given a factory tour and challenged with some design activities.
Our factory tour provided the students with the opportunity to learn about the production process on the making of our products, along with demonstrations of our injection moulding facilities. They were also shown around our newest production lines that manufacture Wiser, our smart connected heating controls.
After the factory tour, the students were challenged to construct a bridge sturdy enough for our remote-controlled, extra mini, Mini Cooper to drive over, using only reused materials from our site. These materials included carboard, paper, toilet roll core and Sellotape. Both teams did a fantastic job with their designs and successfully completed the challenge.
The second challenge was to create a tower structure using dry spaghetti, string, sellotape, and marshmallow which had to be placed on top of the tower. Trying to make the structure stand up was very tricky!
At Schneider Electric we understand the importance of giving students the chance to look at different career opportunities and give them a real world experience of the role.
Laura from Mill Ford school gave us some feedback about the day:
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for inspiring our students today. You were engaging, informative and just boosted their self-esteem from start to finish. We are so thankful for you hosting us today. It has been an absolute pleasure. From myself students and staff a huge thank you.”
