Radiator Mistakes That Could Be Costing You

With the Cost of Energy Expected to Rise Soon, many of us are concerned over the efficiency of our home’s heating. Fears over increasing energy bills have made this winter period particularly stressful, even for those of us with Green Heating Systems. But some simple fixes could help at this time. And these are our tips for common radiator and Smart TRV mistakes that could be costing you.

Improving efficiency

Some of the most effective ways to address short-term weaknesses in your radiators include:

Checking usage

How and when you use your system can play a big part in its efficiency. Frequently drying clothes on a radiator, for example, can result in damage such as damp and mould spots, so this isn’t recommended. Also, if you have programmable thermostats or a smart radiator system, check your schedules to see if you can identify possible energy wastage.

Adjusting levels

During winter, people often turn up the temperature on their radiator valves far too quickly. This can result in excessive energy usage when compared to slower increases. If you have a smart TRV, we’d advise making slight changes or temporary boosts via your Heating App.

Smart TRVs

Smart TRVs are integral to an energy-efficient heating system. They provide full control over radiators and offer Eco-Friendly Operating Modes. In fact, without smart TRVs, you could be losing out on Significant Energy Savings every year that they’re not equipped.

Maintenance

There are also a few radiator mistakes that can cost your home in the long run if left unaddressed, such as:

A lack of boiler checks

Check that your boiler’s running in an optimal condition at least once a year, as this can have a major impact on the performance of your radiators. This is a great way to Maintain your Smart Heating During the Summer, as there is less demand for inspections.

Not bleeding your radiators

You should look to bleed your radiators from time to time. This is one of the Best Ways to Save Energy as it removes the air build-up in your system, improving long-term efficiency.

Overlooking cold spots

When your radiator schedule activates, occasionally check to see if the radiator is heating up evenly. If you identify any cold spots, bleed the radiator or get the system looked at to prevent unnecessary wastage.
